Meet Moorcroft Designer Vicky Lovatt

Posted on: June 14th, 2017 by Libbie Graham

We are looking forward to our first Moorcroft event on the year as we welcome Moorcroft designer Vicky Lovatt into the gallery for the launch of  her new vase Dance Of The Bumblebees.

Solitarty and purposeful, the bumblebee is a bastion of English nature, fighting for its own survival as pesticides and other chemicals saturate our countryside in the name of progress. The sound of its whirring wings and the sight of tiny flowerheads bending under the weight of a visiting bumblebee may yet become memories of past-times. Vicky’s bumblebees are dancing, wing tip to wing tip, whilst beneath them, colourful petals and stamens of flowers bend and flutter as the bees go about their business.

On this special day, Vicky will be in the gallery, accompanied by her brand-new design and armed with a special gold pen to add her signature to each piece.

Vicky Lovatt joined Moorcroft in 1999 as a painter, and for many years both consistently and successfully entered pieces in the annual Open Weekend staff auction which takes place at the Moorcroft factory during Club Members’ Open Weekend each year. Her considerable success did not pass unnoticed. In 2006, Winter’s Moon was launched as an exclusive piece for Moorcroft Collectors’ Club members. This limited edition sold as soon as it became available and it became apparent that astronomy, planets and the universe were her forte in art. Further success followed and then, on 1st September 2011, Vicky was elected into the Moorcroft Design Studio.

Since then, Moorcroft collectors have not been disappointed. One of Vicky’s career highlights has involved designing on giant ceramic globes for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. She has also pioneered the use of silver and platinum gilding in Moorcroft design.

In 2015 Vicky launched the Forever England Collection with golden cornfields forming a backdrop for crimson poppies, this stunning collection represents the perfect evocation of remembrance and has grown with new shapes added in 2016 and 2017. Most recently Vicky designed Galanthus as part of Moorcroft’s 2017 collection. Given a moist soil snowdrops will happily multiply into drifts across the land. In Vicky’s design a mere handful appear, enlarged and stylized with wonderful organic tendrils bursting to life.

We do hope you get chance to meet Vicky and enjoy her design presentation.
