About Ashness Jetty Vase 869/6
The design hints at the boating history of many of the jetties that surround The Lakes. As Ashness jetty projects into the water, there are no moorings. Instead, framed under a canopy of trees, with vistas over the surrounding fells, you find two abandoned wooden skiffs, that could have been left by children lost in another world, like those in Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome, or two lovers journeying in the woods beyond. In truth, their emptiness merely adds to your sense of connection – the connection between you and the calmness of the Derwentwater. Take ownership then of this beautiful scene, that allows you to bathe in quiet waters.
